Spotify ‘Premium for Family’ is great for groups of up to six people in one household to get premium Spotify at a discount. This is a huge savings for groups of people as the more users you add (up to six) the cheaper Premium becomes for the individual. While Spotify touts its service is only for families, it is possible for groups of friends, coworkers, or colleagues to also signup and get the group discount.

For six people (primary account holder plus 5 members) it works out to just about $2.50 per person depending on taxes in your state. This more than makes the service worth it if you can get a group of people together and depending on your music habits can include great cost savings.

I personally use Spotify Premium over Apple Music or similar services because I enjoy the robust desktop app as well as mobile offerings. Spotify can be found on just about every platform out there plus with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay you have it in your car as well. What keeps me a Spotify subscriber is its desktop app, offline download, current music, abstract artists, and even playlists dedicated to your moods (such as sleeping sounds). In every respect I feel Spotify has the upper hand as a great universal music app.

For those already subscribed to Spotify ‘Premium for Family’ or if you’re looking to get started there’s a new deal for you. You can now get a free Google Home Mini for being a subscriber or for subscribing.

In an ever increasingly connected household this might be a great unit to place around to play music, or to use as a companion to your Google devices to keep you connected.

Final Verdict

If you were already considering a group plan this just puts the icing on the cake. For current subscribers this is just more of a value add to your service. I don’t necessarily see any downsides here for this promotion. The value of this device is dependent upon how much you use Spotify and how much savings you see yourself getting for being apart of a group plan.
